EKU's online nurse practitioner programs have no campus visits, so your clinicals happen where you live, and where you live decides a lot: whether EKU enrolls students from your state at all, what your license must cover, and who can precept you. Each guide below starts with what EKU's own state authorization page says for that state.

How to read the state guides
EKU publishes one state authorization page with a licensure table for the MSN (covering the FNP, PMHNP and both post-MSN certificates), a separate RN to BSN table, and state notes. It currently does not enroll online MSN students from Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Oregon, Tennessee or Washington, and it sets conditions in a few others. Each state guide gives EKU's status for that state, then the state's own rules for NP clinicals.
Kentucky's rule that EKU secures its NP students' preceptors applies wherever you train, and so does your right to input. Read the Kentucky rule and state authorization first.

Which states can't enroll in EKU's online NP programs?
EKU's state authorization page lists eight for the MSN and post-MSN certificates: Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington. The reasons differ by state. Check your state's guide and confirm with EKU, since the list changes; Mississippi was added in 2026.
Do I need a Kentucky RN license for EKU clinicals?
EKU asks for an unencumbered RN license for every state in which you are licensed, and your license must be valid where your clinical site is. A Kentucky license matters for Kentucky sites; elsewhere, the license of the state where you train. See RN license and Nursys.
Can I do EKU clinicals in a different state from where I live?
EKU's public pages do not set a rule for that. Your license must cover the clinical state, EKU must be able to place students there, and some states require notice before clinicals, as EKU notes for Alabama and North Dakota. Ask your faculty before planning it.
Does EKU's DNP have state limits too?
Yes. EKU does not enroll DNP students from Colorado, Louisiana, Tennessee or Washington, and its page says nothing either way about the DNP for California, North Carolina, Oregon and Wisconsin. See the DNP guide.
