What an EKU preceptor search costs, and why quotes differ
Every quote we send an EKU student is built for one plan: your program, the clinical course or courses involved, where you live and when the course opens. Below you will find what raises or lowers the work, what a quote covers, and which clinical costs come from EKU's own requirements instead of from us.

Your EKU course sets the starting point
A quote begins with the course number, because each EKU clinical course asks for something different. NSC 800 Advanced Practice Role is split across three concentration courses and adds up to 8 credits, so the preceptor behind it may stay with you for several terms. NSC 876, the 6-credit FNP Internship, is rural primary care in concentrated form. NSC 886, the 5-credit PMHNP Internship, needs a psychiatric setting.
DNP students need an approved site for each experience course, and RN to BSN students have a single clinical, NSC 442C. One fixed price across all of these would overcharge some students and underfund the search for others, so we price the plan you actually have.
What raises or lowers the work
Six factors account for most of the difference between one EKU quote and the next.

What a quote includes
- A preceptor and site search in your own community, matched to the EKU course named on the quote.
- A check of your state against EKU's enrollment limits, and of your RN license against the site's state.
- The preceptor's credentials and the site's details, organized to match EKU's preceptor information form or the DNP site approval request.
- A running list of your clearance items: EKU-purchased liability insurance, license status and site onboarding.
- A replacement search if your preceptor steps away before the course's hours are done.
Knowledge of Kentucky's preceptor rule, EKU's course sequence and its state notes comes with every quote. It is how we work, not an add-on you pay extra for.
Whatever the quote says, EKU alone decides on each preceptor and site. Your fee pays for an option prepared well enough to make that review simple.
Clinical costs that come from EKU, not from us
Some costs arrive with EKU's clinical rules and sit outside any quote. EKU's archived 2021-22 MSN handbook said professional liability insurance must be purchased through Eastern Kentucky University, signed up for by course registration once each coverage year, with the charge appearing on the tuition bill. Coverage ran August 15 to August 14 with no pro-rating. EKU's 2023 curriculum plans still list the insurance as a requirement for clinical practicum courses, so check today's process with your program coordinator.
EKU's catalog adds that clinical agencies may ask for drug screens, background checks, fingerprinting and immunization records, and that these are at the student's expense. Your RN license, CPR certification and travel to the site are yours as well. If a site we find charges its own onboarding fee, you hear about it before you decide. Your placement advisor reviews the options near you and answers with a quote that names each course it covers.

Questions EKU students ask
Why does this site show no prices?
Because one number cannot fit both a Lexington family practice for NSC 800 and a rural psychiatric internship in another state. Each quote follows a short look at your plan and names the courses, the search area and what is included, so you can compare it fairly with any other option.
Is EKU's liability insurance part of your quote?
No. EKU's most recent public handbook says students purchase that insurance through the university, with the charge billed alongside tuition and fees. It sits outside our work, though we keep it on your clearance list so the coverage is active before your first clinical day.
Do DNP students pay the same as NP students?
DNP quotes are built separately. A DNP search looks for a host organization for your project and has to fit EKU's site approval step for each experience course, with the hours you owe set at admission. The scope differs from an NP preceptor search, so the quote does too.
Does EKU charge a placement fee?
EKU's public pages list no placement fee. The clinical costs they do name are the liability insurance bought through the university and the screening items clinical agencies may require, which the catalog places at the student's expense. Your program coordinator can confirm anything specific to your course.
What if EKU asks for a different preceptor?
Your quote sets out what happens next, including a further search near you. Because course fit, license and site details are checked before you submit, the option reaches EKU complete. If EKU still wants a change, the new search starts the same day.
