EKU's North Dakota entry, word for word

EKU's page gives North Dakota a single nursing note: "NURSING: Program must notify and pay an annual fee to place students in clinicals." The note names nursing as a whole, so every EKU nursing program is open here with that condition attached, and both licensure tables say Meets Requirements. North Dakota also appears on both of EKU's SARA lists, a small inconsistency; the nursing note is what affects you.

How North Dakota's recognition process works

EKU's note matches the North Dakota Board of Nursing's recognition process for distance education, which covers programs whose students train in North Dakota facilities toward a nursing license, APRN included, so EKU's FNP and PMHNP tracks fall under it. State law also expects such a program to hold approval from its home-state board, which for EKU means Kentucky's.

Reading EKU's absence from the recognized list

The Board publishes a list titled Recognized Distance Nursing Education Programs 2026-2027, and EKU was not on it when checked on September 25, 2026. That fits EKU's own page, which says the program must notify and pay before placing students, and it does not by itself close North Dakota. It does mean recognition for this academic year was not in place on that date, and only EKU can say whether and when it will file for your term.

Two programs sit in a gray area: the Board's guidelines are silent on RN to BSN programs, which EKU still marks conditional, and the post-master's DNP leads to no license, so ask EKU whether recognition reaches DNP practicum hours.

Before you commit to a North Dakota preceptor, ask your faculty or the Clinical Placement Coordinator whether EKU will complete recognition in time for your clinical term. With a 60-day lead time on the Board's side, ask a full term ahead.

Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks and Minot

Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks and Minot are North Dakota's largest metros. Systems there include Altru Health System in Grand Forks, Trinity Health in Minot, Sanford Health and CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, and Essentia Health, which also serves Minnesota and Wisconsin. EKU names no North Dakota clinical partners, so any site you suggest goes through the Board's filing and EKU's review.

Fargo and Grand Forks both extend into Minnesota, where EKU's MSN licensure table says Does Not Meet. A clinic on that side would be a Minnesota placement, which EKU's page does not address, so raise it with EKU first (Minnesota guide).

Licensing and practice in North Dakota

North Dakota belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact, and the Board's semester filing records each student's North Dakota or compact license, so keep yours active. EKU separately requires that every RN license you hold be unencumbered (RN license and Nursys). AANP rates North Dakota a full practice state. Lawmakers adopted the APRN Compact in March 2021, though the compact is still waiting on enough states to take effect.

The Board's semester filing names each preceptor and includes their resume and license, alongside the affiliation agreement and the facility's statement that it has room for you. EKU adds its own clinical contract and preceptor information. Your placement advisor collects the preceptor's details up front so nothing is missing when EKU files.

Could EKU's North Dakota status change?
