Clinical settings around Providence
The census counts about 1.1 million Rhode Islanders inside the Providence-Warwick metro, which also stretches into Massachusetts. Our state list names four systems: Brown University Health, South County Health, Care New England and CharterCARE. They are useful signposts for a search, and each decides on students in its own way.
We read Rhode Island's rule on nurse licensing and nursing education (216-RICR-40-05-3) and found no step that makes an out-of-state school seek Board clearance ahead of clinicals in the state; the rule is aimed at Rhode Island's own basic programs. What it does require of those in-state programs is proof, in their agency agreements, of active participation in a statewide central registry for clinical placements. Whether outside schools must join is left unsaid, so ask EKU whether a Rhode Island site brings the registry into play.
Your license after Rhode Island's compact return
Rhode Island came back into the compact at the start of 2024. A qualified resident licensed after that point holds a multistate license, good for a home-state site, and a nurse from another compact state can train in Rhode Island on the multistate license issued at home.
Whatever the state, EKU wants no encumbrance on any RN license in your name, and its last posted MSN Student Handbook (2021-22) enrolled students in Nursys monitoring from admission. Confirm the current version with your faculty; the RN license guide covers both points.

Can I do EKU clinicals across the line in Massachusetts?
Check two things first. Nothing on EKU's public pages addresses training in a state other than your own, so get your faculty's agreement. And Massachusetts has enacted the Nurse Licensure Compact but was still awaiting implementation when last checked, so a Rhode Island multistate license may not yet cover practice there. Confirm both before proposing a Massachusetts site.
Is EKU's FNP open to Rhode Island residents?

Yes. EKU's RN-BSN licensure table lists Rhode Island as meeting requirements, with no restriction. The program's one clinical course, NSC 442C, ran as 60 clock hours over eight weeks in the archived 2023-24 handbook, with the agency request form due the semester before, so confirm the current format.
