Studying with EKU from Nevada: what your clinicals involve
Nevada is open for every EKU online nursing program, from the FNP to the RN to BSN, and neither licensure table attaches a condition. For an EKU clinical course here, plan around a Nevada-issued RN license, because the state is outside the compact, and around NAC 632.703, the Board's rule for online schools that teach at Nevada bedsides.

NAC 632.703 and EKU's clinical courses
For EKU students heading into NSC 800 or an internship, the Nevada regulation that matters is NAC 632.703. It asks any school conducting part of a program in the state to file the Board's report form with proof of accreditation, show it follows Nevada's nursing law and send annual reports. Online schools face one more gate: an online school may not teach clinically in Nevada until the Board approves it, and its Nevada-based faculty need Nevada licenses.
Whether that gate applies to a graduate NP program is not spelled out. On paper the regulation treats graduate and pre-licensure schools alike, and the out-of-state schools the Board had cleared for clinical-only teaching as of September 1, 2026 were all associate and bachelor's pre-licensure programs. EKU's faculty are the right people to say how EKU handles Nevada, so ask before you commit to a site.
Older Board guidance from 2005 still describes the preceptor model: faculty stay in charge of every student clinical experience, one preceptor handles two students at most and works alongside them on site, and the school orients preceptors and gives them written objectives.
Prescribing limits, systems and metros
Nevada is a full practice state on AANP's map, but newer NPs face a Schedule II waiting period: those prescriptions begin after two years, or 2,000 hours, in clinical practice, or sooner under a physician-approved protocol. For EKU PMHNP students bound for the PMHNP internship, an experienced preceptor shows more of the controlled-substance side of psychiatric care.
Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas is by far the larger metro, with about 2.4 million people in 2025 against Reno's 579,000. In the south, the names students see include Dignity Health's Las Vegas and Henderson hospitals, The Valley Health System, HCA's Sunrise Health System and UMC, the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada; in the north, Renown Health, with Carson City as the third metro. They illustrate the market, and none has a published link to EKU.
Why your license must say Nevada
No compact license works in Nevada. The state has no compact membership and, per NCSBN's June 2026 data, no pending bill to change that, so a multistate license from Kentucky or Arizona does nothing for you here. The Board has also ruled, in a practice decision, that anyone caring for patients located in Nevada needs a Nevada license, hands-on nursing education included.
Get the Nevada license before your first NSC 800 shift, and keep all your licenses unencumbered for EKU; see the RN license and Nursys guide. Crossing a state line for a site changes the rules again: California requires a California RN license for NP students, and Arizona accepts an Arizona or multistate license but asks the school for approval first. Check with faculty before planning either.

Questions EKU students ask
Will a Kentucky compact license cover my EKU clinicals in Nevada?
No. Compact privileges stop at Nevada's border because the state has not adopted the compact, so plan on a Nevada RN license before any clinical with Nevada patients. EKU separately asks that each license you hold stay unencumbered and, per its last public MSN handbook, has you consent to Nursys e-Notify at admission.
Has Nevada's nursing board approved EKU?
EKU is absent from the Board's September 2026 roster of out-of-state schools teaching only their clinical portion in Nevada, but that roster holds only associate and bachelor's pre-licensure programs, so it says nothing either way about NP programs. Your faculty can tell you how EKU handles Nevada before you settle on a site.
Can my Nevada preceptor take more than one student?
Up to two, according to the Board's 2005 practice decision, and only while working on site with them. A popular preceptor may already have students from other schools, so ask about their calendar for the weeks of your EKU course and keep a second name ready.
Can Nevada nurses take EKU's online RN to BSN?
Yes. EKU's RN to BSN licensure table lists Nevada as Meets Requirements, and EKU publishes no Nevada restriction. EKU has noted that RN to BSN students may base the capstone clinical project at the place they already work; the RN to BSN guide explains how the program runs.
