EKU from Maine: every program open, clinicals close to home
Maine is one of the SARA states EKU lists with no restrictions, and both EKU licensure tables mark it Meets Requirements. The FNP and PMHNP, their post-MSN certificate versions, the RN to BSN and the DNP are all open to Maine nurses, and because EKU's programs involve no campus visits, your clinical hours are logged at a Maine practice.

Two standing EKU rules still apply to you, as they do to every student outside Kentucky. The graduate catalog asks you to report where off-campus supervised clinical work physically takes place, and EKU's authorization page treats a move after you apply as a risk to your enrollment, so clear any relocation with your advisor first.
Maine's rules for NP practice and student clinicals
AANP files Maine under full practice, with a transition: newer NPs first log at least 24 months supervised by a physician or an NP, unless they are employed by a clinic or hospital run with a physician medical director. When you size up a preceptor, one who is past that stage brings independent practice experience to your clinical days.
Maine's Board has no rule or guidance on record about clinical rotations run by out-of-state schools, and its rules list and education pages point to none. Chapter 7 of its rules deals only with approving prelicensure programs based in Maine. The licensure exemption for students, 32 MRSA §2103(2), is meant for people still earning a first license; as a working RN in graduate study, you train under your own license. For anything specific to Maine, EKU has the final word.
Where Maine NP students look for clinical sites
The big systems are MaineHealth and Northern Light Health, along with MaineGeneral Health and Central Maine Healthcare. Metro Portland-South Portland is the largest population center by a wide margin, with the Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn areas next. These names help orient a search; none of them has a known arrangement with EKU, and every site goes through EKU's approval.
A family practice in a small town can suit EKU's FNP well. EKU still markets the program as Rural Health FNP, and the catalog describes NSC 876, the FNP Internship, as an intensive practicum in rural primary care, so a community clinic far from the metros is a natural match. See EKU's rural focus.

Licensing on a Maine compact license
Maine's place in the Nurse Licensure Compact took effect on January 19, 2018. A Maine multistate license therefore covers RN practice at home and at sites in other compact states, which matters if your best preceptor option sits across the border in New Hampshire. Massachusetts will not accept it until that state finishes implementing the compact.
EKU checks that none of your licenses is encumbered, in Maine or any other state, and its archived 2021-22 MSN handbook put students on Nursys e-Notify when they were admitted. The license page has details. Maine is not an APRN Compact state.

Can I do EKU's FNP internship in rural Maine?
EKU publishes no Maine restriction, and its FNP internship, NSC 876, is built around rural primary care, so a rural Maine practice is a sensible proposal. EKU approves every site. EKU counts 750 direct patient care hours for FNP graduates, with the final 300 meant to pull earlier coursework together; the internship guide walks through it.
Is the EKU DNP available to nurses in Maine?
Yes, with nothing on EKU's page limiting it for Maine. This post-master's Organizational Leadership degree asks for 1,000 or more clinical hours past the BSN in total, EKU decides at admission how many of those you still owe, and project work can take place in the organization where you already work. Can a Maine NP in their first two years of practice precept me?
Ask EKU first. A Maine NP still inside the two-year transition works under a supervising physician or NP, or in a setting with a physician medical director, before reaching full practice. EKU reviews every preceptor, and its complete qualification rules are not public, so your faculty or the Clinical Placement Coordinator decides whether a newer NP fits. See preceptor requirements.
Does the RN to BSN have a clinical I can complete in Maine?
Yes. Its lone clinical course is NSC 442C; an archived EKU handbook put it at 60 clock hours across eight weeks, and the RN to BSN table marks Maine Meets Requirements.
