EKU's online student tools, and where clinical details live
An online EKU nursing student works mostly in five systems: myEKU for registration and grades, Canvas for every course, myMail for official messages, Degree Works for the degree plan and the Colonel's Compass for term dates. Clinical placement details are the exception. They sit in the MSN Student Handbook, your clinical course and your faculty rather than in any one public system.

myEKU: registration, grades and records
myEKU, at my.eku.edu, is EKU's student portal. The graduate catalog lists what happens there: registering for classes, checking grades, getting a parking permit and more. You register on the dates the Colonel's Compass sets for your part of term, and the catalog sends you to myEKU for online withdrawals too.
One EKU account opens myEKU, Canvas and your email, and the catalog gives the account format as your username followed by @mymail.eku.edu. Your EKU ID is a nine-digit number beginning with 900 or 901.
Behind the portal sit people as well as systems. EKU Graduate, Online & Adult Transfer handles enrollment for online and graduate students, the program pages name an enrollment counselor for questions before you apply, and EKU promises personalized academic advising once you are in. The archived 2021-22 MSN Student Handbook assigned one advisor per track.
Canvas: where every online course runs
Canvas is EKU's learning management system, at eku.instructure.com. You are placed in your Canvas courses automatically when you register, and every online course uses it. EKU moved its courses into Canvas between June 2024 and June 2025 and reached full adoption on May 19, 2025.
If an older EKU page, handbook or syllabus mentions a different course system, it was written before that switch. Your materials, announcements and assignments live in Canvas, including your clinical course, which appears as its own course beside its didactic partner, such as NSC 800 next to FNP I or PMHNP I.
Check each course's own dates. In EKU's latest available curriculum plans, clinical courses ran a full semester while most core courses ran seven weeks, so two Canvas courses taken together can end on different days. The 7-week terms guide sets out the calendar.
myMail: EKU's official channel
Your student email, myMail, runs on Microsoft, and EKU lets you keep the address after graduation. Registered students also get Office 365. EKU's archived 2021-22 MSN Student Handbook expected students to check EKU email daily, and it sent readmission decisions to that inbox.
Treat myMail as the address for anything formal. The 2025-26 University Student Handbook accepts academic complaints only as a signed letter or as email from your official EKU account. For DNP students, the archived DNP handbook has the Clinical Placement Coordinator email each student when they are approved to begin DNP Experience hours.
Answer clinical messages the same day. In a 7-week session, a few days of silence over a missing document is a real share of the term.

Registration itself happens in myEKU, on the dates the Compass sets. If a clinical course might run past its end date, read behind on clinical hours before you talk to your faculty.
IT ServiceDesk and the Academic Testing Portal
The IT ServiceDesk, also called the IT Help Desk, is EKU's first point of contact for any technology problem. Its pages include reset tools for account access and for two-factor authentication, and EKU's knowledge base at eku.edu/in/knowledge-base/ holds how-to guides for the main systems. Contact it early if a Canvas or myEKU problem threatens a due date, and keep the ticket as a record for your instructor.
For exams that need a proctor, the Academic Testing Portal at success.eku.edu lists EKU's proctored exam services. EKU's public pages do not name the remote proctoring tool its Canvas courses use, so follow the instructions in your syllabus and ask your instructor about setup before the exam window opens.
EKU Libraries for nurse practitioner students
EKU Libraries, based in the John Grant Crabbe Main Library, offers online learners help and collections equivalent to what on-campus students get, with live chat through libanswers.eku.edu. Two research guides do most of the work for nursing students.
- Rural Health Family Nurse Practitioner Research Guide (libguides.eku.edu/fnp): tabs for UpToDate and articles, searching, health data, APA 7th edition and getting help. Its databases include UpToDate, CINAHL Ultimate, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, APA PsycINFO and Web of Science.

NSC 890PICOT searches and one on School of Nursing APA style. Its databases include CINAHL Ultimate, MEDLINE, Nursing & Allied Health Premium, PubMed and UpToDate.
EKU has no separate PMHNP or DNP guide at the addresses you would expect, so PMHNP and DNP students work from the nursing guide, with APA PsycINFO reachable through the FNP guide. The Main Library also houses the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity and the Student Success Center, which offers tutoring, mentoring and workshops.
Where clinical information lives
No single public EKU system holds NP clinical placement details. The working rules sit in the MSN Student Handbook and the DNP handbook, which EKU provides to enrolled students; the newest public editions are archived copies from 2021-22 (MSN) and 2020 (DNP). Your clinical course, your course faculty and, for DNP site approval, the School of Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator supply the rest.
The paperwork carries names you will see again: the clinical contract and preceptor information form, the Clinical Waiver form and, for FNP students, the Telehealth Checklist. The preceptor information form guide explains each one. EKU's BSN pages say the School of Nursing uses Complio for compliance documents, but EKU does not say which tracking system graduate students use, so ask your course faculty which system and which due dates apply to your section.

Questions EKU students ask
Who do I contact if I cannot get into myEKU or Canvas?
Start with the IT ServiceDesk, which EKU describes as the first point of contact for all service issues. Its reset tools cover account access and two-factor authentication, and the knowledge base walks through common fixes. If the problem blocks an assignment or exam, email your instructor from myMail with the ticket details so there is a dated record.
What remote proctoring does EKU use for online exams?
EKU's public pages do not say. The Academic Testing Portal lists proctored exam services without naming a remote tool, so the instructions in your Canvas course and syllabus are the authority. Ask your instructor about equipment and setup a few days before the exam window, not on the day.
Does EKU use Typhon or a similar log for NP clinical hours?
EKU publishes nothing naming Typhon, Exxat, ACEMAPP or any clinical log for MSN or DNP students. The only log EKU names is the DNP Experience Log, which records date, time, activity and its link to the DNP Essentials. Your course faculty will tell you where MSN hours are recorded; see the clinical hours guide.
Where do I ask about the liability insurance charge on my EKU bill?
Big E Central handles billing and payment plans. EKU's archived MSN handbook says professional liability insurance for clinical courses is bought through EKU, registered once per coverage year and billed with tuition and fees, with coverage running August 15 to August 14. The liability insurance guide covers the details.
Can I use EKU library databases at my clinical site?
EKU Libraries gives online learners the same collections as on-campus students, so UpToDate, CINAHL Ultimate and the other databases in the FNP and nursing guides are open to you wherever you study. Check your clinical site's own rules on personal devices and patient information before you look anything up during a clinic day.
